Halloween Doll Club Meeting & Luncheon

I hosted my doll club, The Renaissance Doll Study Club, for our October meeting.  Of course, I had to do some fast dusting and tidying of the doll room which usually tends more towards chaos.  I preset the dining room table for a buffet to keep it simple and I did my program on the Christian Hacker Shops.  Sooo...that sounded great in theory until it occurred to me I had to move them downstairs for the talk.  The shops have a lot of "little" things in them!  Lol.  All in all a good time was had.

 

The Shops set up for the program....all the little things made it safely down.  These shops were made by The Christian Hacker Company in the late 1800s early 1900s.  

Meanwhile up in the Doll Room....

My collection of Kitchen miniatures resides in an antique Hoosier cabinet.  I have a lot of fun setting up the displays.  I always place dogs in the settings...every doll needs a dog!

Even though I have not started the monster restoration project that is the Mystery House...I had some fun setting it up for viewing....

UFDC Convention

I am back from the Convention in Phoenix.  It was hot but I spent almost the entire time in the hotel and convention area so the heat was not a problem.  Here are some pics.  I did not take very many because I was too busy having fun!  😃

There was a wonderful Simon Halbig Exhibit.  There were actually several outstanding exhibits but I got pics of this one.

Doll Leaves Doris

Several years ago I bought a large Ball Jointed Doll from the Doll Leaves Company.  It is their Doris model (though I have named her Maggie).  I have a few clothes for her but not very many.
Last Fall I went to a BJD event for Volks and bought her a new Kimono.  The quality is magnificent on this piece...made from antique kimonos.  Here are some shots of her stroll through my garden...

New wig for my French Fashion Doll

Recently I got together with some of my doll friends who collect antique French Fashion Dolls.  One of my friends taught us how to make 18th century wigs for the dolls....as if the dolls were attending a costume party.  I had a wonderful time and have been continuing to work on the wig.  Here are some pics of my first attempt.

My doll is a Bru...early moon face...with wooden arms/hands and leather body from the late 1860s.

The wig is made from Tibetan Lamb.  

(Ignore the mess on my desk!)  I am still having trouble with the wig being a bit too frizzy.

I am also working on a dress for her.  Here she is trying out the fabric, feathers, handmade beaded flowers and a miniature ship that seems to have found a new home!

Doll Retreat 2013

This Year's Retreat Teacher was Leslie Molen.  We did her Santos Cage doll.  Here is a picture of mine...I still need to work on her hair.

Winter Wedding Doll

My paverpol winter wedding doll is finished! And its only 1:00 in the morning!!

New Fairy Doll

This past weekend my doll club had a mini-retreat and we all worked on the same doll pattern...Grapevine Girls by Alison Marano. Here is my fairy I made with her pattern...I changed the hands as I didn't have time to let the paper clay dry. The wings are made out of liquid sculpy and wire.

Making Needle Felted Dogs

The Valley Doll club made needle felted dogs at our meeting on Sunday. I made a pink one to go with my pink haired Dolfie...she still needs her face painted...I am behind on that...but hey...now she has a dog...what's more important?

Doll Retreat With Adele Sciortino

These pics are from the January Retreat with Sisters of the Cloth...I am just getting around to unloading pics from an old camera card!

The Retreat was Viva La Carnival. We used a Carnival theme for the whole retreat...which was out in Temecula as usual.


I made name tags for the retreat using purchased Mardi Gras beads with blank white medallions. I then scanned some mask fabric and used photoshop to print the names. I cut them out and glued them on the medallions.
